Some rules of thumb I follow these days when taking advice.

1. If someone is fat or skinny fat, I don’t take health advice from them.
2. If nutrition advice starts with “Indian food is healthy and the king by default,” I stop listening.
3. If someone has never built anything from scratch, without family support or financial backing, I’m cautious with their business advice.
4. If they’ve never done real business development, I don’t talk growth with them.
5. If they can’t move even one needle for me, I don’t seek their help.

And a big one.

6. If someone introduces themselves primarily as a consultant, I stay away.
Most will try to solve everything using the one framework they know.

None of this makes people good or bad.
Many may have good intentions.

But if they haven’t been in the place you’re in and solved the problem themselves, those intentions can hurt more than they help.
